Registered in Chennai in 1990 as a non-profit, non-political, non-religious charitable organisation, Jeevodaya was India's second hospice and the first of its kind in South India. From its 50-bed campus at Mathur, Manali, it gives advanced cancer patients free in-patient hospice care, pain and symptom control on WHO guidelines, counselling, dormitories for relatives and even last rites for destitute patients, with a day-care clinic in Purasawalkam extending outpatient palliative care into the city.
