Deepsikha began in 2004 around Assam Bhavan in Mumbai, where Devasish Sharma started sheltering cancer patients from Assam who travelled to Tata Memorial Hospital with nowhere to stay. Today the Guwahati-headquartered trust runs Arogya Bhavans and dormitories in Navi Mumbai and Assam, the Sishu Ashray Sthal home for children with cancer in Guwahati, and a hospice at Mirza — famously evacuating 168 people including 80 cancer patients 2,800 km home by bus during the 2020 lockdown.
