Founder

Suraj Prakash is the founder of Bharat Vikas Parishad [1], an Indian non-profit working on healthcare, education, disability and faith-based service from New Delhi.

Suraj Prakash was the founder secretary general of Bharat Vikas Parishad, and the organiser behind its creation in Delhi in the aftermath of the 1962 Sino-Indian war. When the fighting began he formed a Citizens Council, which appealed to the public and collected woollens, socks, medicines and dry fruit in quantity for transmission to troops on the frontier.

He then proposed to a group of some thirty people in West Patel Nagar that the wartime council become a permanent body of professionals committed to national service. On 12 January 1963, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Citizens Council was renamed Bharat Vikas Parishad; it was registered as a society on 10 July that year. Prakash led the organisation for close to three decades as it grew into a national network of branches carrying out philanthropic work, including student scholarships and skill development programmes for blind people.

Beyond his role in founding and running the Parishad, little verifiable biographical detail about him is available in accessible published sources.[2][3]

Bharat Vikas Parishad is a national voluntary organisation operating through branches across India. Its volunteer branches run health camps, blood donation drives, artificial-limb and disability support, student scholarships and cultural and value-education programmes.
