Ravikant Singh

Singh trained in medicine at Seth G. S. Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors For You began during an outbreak of dengue and leptospirosis in Mumbai, when he organised a platelet donation and awareness campaign among fellow doctors and students; the campaign substantially increased the number of platelet donors at the hospital, and the name Doctors For You was adopted when the hospital administration asked which organisation was running it.

The organisation's first large relief operation followed the Kosi embankment breach and floods in Bihar in August 2008, when Singh took a team of young doctors to the affected districts and Doctors For You mobilised medical volunteers over a period of months.

Doctors For You has since worked in states including Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, and in the Kashmir Valley, on public health and nutrition, emergency response, skills and livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene, and research. During the COVID-19 pandemic it ran a 100-bed COVID care facility in Delhi and took part in a large vaccination programme. It has also conducted tuberculosis research in slum rehabilitation colonies in Mumbai.

Singh has held an academic post at the Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai.

Singh received the SAARC Youth Award in 2009 for outstanding contribution to humanitarian work in the aftermath of natural disasters, recognising his work during the 2008 Bihar floods. Doctors For You and its founding have also been recognised by NDTV with a True Legend award.[2][3][4][5]
