Founder of Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation

Daulatbi Khan is the founder of Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation (2016)[1], an Indian non-profit working on human rights and women & children from Mumbai.

Daulat Bi Khan is an Indian campaigner for acid attack survivors and the founder and president of the Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation, a Mumbai-based charity she set up in November 2016.

She is herself a survivor of an acid attack that took place in 2010, in which she and members of her family were injured in a dispute over property. She founded the organisation after finding that survivors had little practical support, and it now works with survivors across several Indian states.

Career

Khan was severely injured in an acid attack in 2010, in which her sisters and a young niece were also hurt. Her medical treatment consumed the family's resources, and she was unable to return to her former work; she worked as a domestic help before starting the foundation.

She registered the Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation in November 2016 with the aim of supporting a handful of survivors. The organisation arranges free treatment through private hospitals in Mumbai, provides food and medicines, sponsors the education of survivors and of their children, and helps survivors find work. Khan states that she meets survivors personally as soon as the organisation learns of a new case.

The foundation employs acid attack survivors on its own staff. It has grown from supporting a small number of survivors to working with dozens across four states, with its headquarters in Mumbai.[2][3][4][5]

Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation

Acid Survivors Saahas Foundation is a Mumbai-based trust founded in 2016 by Daulat Bi Khan, herself a survivor of an acid attack, to provide medical treatment, legal support, counselling and monthly rations to acid attack survivors and their families across Maharashtra. It also runs computer training and employment-assistance programmes for survivors.
