Abodh Aras

Abodh Aras is the founder of Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO)[1], an Indian non-profit working on animals from New Delhi.

Abodh Aras is an Indian animal welfare worker. He is chief executive officer of The Welfare of Stray Dogs, a Mumbai organisation that pioneered the Animal Birth Control programme in the city, and a founding trustee of the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO), where he serves as chair of the board of trustees.

Early life and education

Aras holds an MBA in marketing and also has degrees in hotel management and arts.

Career

Aras began his working life in the corporate sector, including a period with DHL Worldwide Express managing customer services and sales. He left the corporate sector to join The Welfare of Stray Dogs, which he joined in 2000 and of which he is now chief executive officer.

FIAPO was conceived as a federation of animal protection groups and was started by seven animal advocates and their organisations: Chinny Krishna of the Blue Cross of India, Norma Alvares of People for Animals Goa, Amala Akkineni of the Blue Cross of Hyderabad, Shiela Rao of CUPA Bangalore, Aras of The Welfare of Stray Dogs, Nandita Shah of Sharan and Erika Abrams of the Animal Aid Charitable Trust. The federation was registered on 25 November 2010 under the Indian Trusts Act 1882. Aras is a founding trustee and now chairs its board.

He has spoken publicly on dog welfare in India, including on the working of the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001.[2][3]
