Southern Health Improvement Samity (SHIS), founded in 1980 by M.A. Wohab with Sabitri Pal at Bhangar in South 24 Parganas, is an integrated social welfare organisation serving the poorest of West Bengal. It is known for its tuberculosis and eye-care work and its mobile boat clinics that carry doctors to marooned villages of the Sundarbans.
