iTeach Schools was started in April 2015 to fix a specific structural gap: none of Pune's 54 English-medium public schools at the time went beyond Grade 7, forcing low-income students who had studied in English to either drop out or switch into a Marathi-medium system mid-way through their education. iTeach operates through a public-private partnership model — the Pune Municipal Corporation (and later Mumbai authorities) provide school buildings, funding partners provide grants, and iTeach designs curriculum and runs daily operations for free, English-medium secondary schools covering Grades 8 to 10. The organisation has grown to run a network of schools across Pune and Mumbai serving thousands of students from the lowest-income communities, with a stated goal of preparing them for college, career and active citizenship rather than just a diploma.
