Cross Blood Foundation grew from personal tragedy: founders Mr and Mrs N. L. Hari Haran lost their five-year-old son Hemnath to leukaemia, and in 1999 registered the Chennai trust in his memory. For over two decades it has run blood donation camps, provided shared-care services for children treated for blood cancers at the Institute of Child Health, Egmore and other hospitals, donated drugs, and given financial help to children with thalassaemia and leukaemia.
