Azad Foundation

Azad Foundation trains women from low-income communities in Delhi as commercial drivers, giving them a stable, dignified income in a field almost entirely closed to women. Its flagship Women on Wheels programme combines driving instruction with self-defence, financial literacy and life-skills training, and has since been adapted by partner organisations in other Indian cities.

Azad Foundation reports the following, on its own site:

• 6,000+ driving licenses acquired by women since 2008
• 4,500+ women placed as professional chauffeurs and riders in the transport sector
• 5 million+ safe rides provided by Azad-trained drivers
• 6,631 young women and men trained as change-agents
