Founder

Mayur Patnala is the founder of Nirmaan Organization (2005)[1], an Indian non-profit working on education, livelihood and women & children from Hyderabad.

Mayur Patnala is the founder, chairperson and global chief executive of the Nirmaan Organization, an Indian non-governmental organisation headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, that works in education, skills and employment, health, environment, rural development, disaster relief and community development.

Nirmaan began in 2005 as a student initiative on the BITS Pilani campus under the slogan 'Save One Rupee a Day, Volunteer One Hour a Day', and was formally registered as an organisation in 2007.

Early life and education

Patnala studied at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. It was while volunteering with a group of twenty-five children on the BITS Pilani campus in 2005 that he was prompted to start what became Nirmaan.

Career

From the student initiative of 2005, Patnala built Nirmaan into a registered organisation in 2007 and expanded it from 2012 through structured programmes and corporate partnerships focused on women's empowerment and youth employment. From 2019 the organisation moved into further areas including health and environmental sustainability, and it has more recently emphasised diversity, inclusion and employment for persons with disabilities.

He serves as president of Nirmaan's governing board as well as its global chief executive. The organisation's programmes include school transformation, digital and STEM laboratories, scholarships and mentoring, youth employment and vocational training, skilling programmes for persons with disabilities and for LGBTQ+ people, village adoption, lake restoration and disaster relief.

Recognition

BITS Pilani conferred its Young Alumnus Achievement Award on Patnala in 2023. Under his leadership Nirmaan has been recognised with, among others, the NGO Leadership of the Year award at the SMX CSR Leadership Summit in 2023, Great Place to Work certification in 2023 and 2024-25, the Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency in 2023 and 2024, and the IBM Global Volunteering Excellence Award in 2019.[2][3][4][5]

Nirmaan Organization

Nirmaan Organization was founded in 2005 by students at BITS Pilani and is now headquartered in Hyderabad. It runs school transformation, career guidance, skilling and women's entrepreneurship programmes across India, working with governments and corporate partners.
