Jayanti Barooah is the founder of North East Educational Trust (NEET)[1], an Indian non-profit working on education from Guwahati.

Jayanti Barooah is a founder trustee of the North East Educational Trust (NEET), a public charitable trust registered in Guwahati, Assam, in 2009 that works on children's literacy, language learning and library provision. NEET's own website lists her among its founders and as a trustee, alongside Risha Borooah, who is listed as founder.

Career

Barooah holds a master's degree in botany. NEET records that her interest in education grew out of her social work as an executive member of the Association for Social Health in India, and that she has also been involved in conservation through her membership of the Assam (Bhorelli) Angling and Conservation Association.

The trust, though registered in 2009, began operating in 2016 by documenting teaching and learning practices in Indian education and running workshops with teachers and children. It runs language learning programmes in government schools, a community library cum resource centre in Guwahati, an early childhood care and education programme, and teacher education work, and produces children's literature and teaching material in Assamese.[2][3]
