Dipak Basu is the co-founder of Anudip Foundation (2007)[1], an Indian non-profit working on livelihood, education and women & children from Kolkata.

Dipak Basu is an Indian technologist and social entrepreneur, and the founder and chairman of the Anudip Foundation, a Kolkata-based non-profit organisation that provides digital skills, employability and entrepreneurship training to poor young people and women in rural and urban India.

Anudip's own account of its history describes it as having been set up by a group of social entrepreneurs including its founders Radha Basu and Dipak Basu, and dates its inception to 2007; the organisation's team page states that he founded it in 2006. The organisation reports having reached more than 730,000 people.

Education and career

Basu holds degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the University of Southern California.

While advising the Government of India he established INDONET, the country's first public data network. He later worked at Cisco Systems, where he led work on Voice over IP and Metro Ethernet, and at NetHope, where he developed information technology solutions for humanitarian operations.

Anudip Foundation

In early 2007 Basu, together with ActionAid and the Reuters Foundation, carried out an ethnographic study in the Ganges delta south of Kolkata. It concluded that the economic position of very poor and marginalised people could be transformed by increasing local employment. The Anudip Foundation was set up to address the livelihood needs of the rural and urban poor through digital literacy.

The organisation runs training programmes combining digital and workplace skills with artificial intelligence applications, and places graduates in employment or supports them in setting up micro-enterprises.

Recognition

Anudip lists among Basu's honours the Tech Laureate award for information technology in humanity and the President's Award from Save the Children.[2][3]
