Founder of Roshini Trust

B.Sri Kanth is the founder of Roshini Trust[1], an Indian non-profit working on mental health from Hyderabad.

B.Sri Kanth is one of the four founders of roshini Trust, a Hyderabad mental health organisation. The trust's own website lists him alongside Shashi Reddy, Shanthi KrishnaMurthy and Poonam Pamnani as its founders.

roshini began on 4 December 1997, when a group of friends, concerned at the number of suicides in the city, opened a helpline offering free and confidential emotional support staffed by trained volunteers. The initiative was started with the support of Anji Reddy of Dr Reddy's Laboratories.

The helpline moved to new premises in Secunderabad in 2003. After more than a decade of running it, the founders concluded that a listening service, while valuable, did not meet the needs of people with diagnosable mental disorders, and in 2010 they opened the roshini Counselling Centre in Begumpet, bringing psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and counsellors together in one place.

The trust began free mental health camps in 2013 and launched a 'Psychiatry at Your Door Step' service in 2022. It works to make psychiatric treatment available to people living in low-income neighbourhoods of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness. Around 65 volunteers staff the helpline.

Recognition

roshini Trust was given the Pride of Telangana award in the NGO category.[2][3][4]
