B. K. Mishra is the founder of Veterans India[1], an Indian non-profit working on armed forces & veterans from New Delhi.
B. K. Mishra is the founder and national president of Veterans India, an apolitical organisation of ex-servicemen, students and professionals registered in Delhi in 2015 that promotes structured volunteering, veterans' welfare and civic service. He is a former Indian Air Force serviceman.
He set up the organisation with Brigadier R. K. Sharma, SM (retd) and Captain B. N. Singh, who are its other founder trustees. Veterans India describes his aim as turning patriotism into organised national service: in his words, 'Patriotism must go beyond emotion. It must become discipline, responsibility, service and measurable contribution to the nation.'
Career
Mishra served in the Indian Air Force before taking voluntary retirement, and afterwards moved into business.
Veterans India was registered in Delhi in 2015. Mishra is described by the organisation as the architect of its Veterans and Patriotic Reserve Force (VPRF), a programme that recruits and trains volunteers through higher education institutions, schools, districts and community units. The organisation runs wings covering education, youth, women's empowerment, health, environment, fire safety and disaster preparedness, skills and employment, rural development, and welfare of veterans, war widows, disabled soldiers and the families of those killed in service.
He argues that the values acquired in military service - discipline, leadership, teamwork and responsibility - should not end at retirement, and that veterans should continue to mentor young people and support communities.[2][3][4][5]
