Anubha Sharma is the founder & ceo of Angel Xpress Foundation [1], an Indian non-profit working on education from Mumbai.

Anubha Sharma is the founder and chief executive of the Angel Xpress Foundation, a Mumbai-based non-governmental organisation that runs free learning centres for children from low-income neighbourhoods, staffed largely by volunteers from the city.

She started the organisation in April 2012 with Beenaa Advani, who is its co-founder and chief operating officer, after a period volunteering at a street school for children living in Mumbai's slums.

Early life and education

Sharma is an alumna of Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata.

Career

Sharma spent more than two decades in financial services, holding regional and national roles at firms including Kotak, Religare, Reliance Capital and Edelweiss.

In 2012, while on a year-long sabbatical, she began volunteering at a street school for children from nearby slums. A post she wrote on Facebook asking for warm clothes for the children drew offers of help from several thousand people, which led her to conclude that a bridge was needed between socially minded citizens and children who needed support. She and Beenaa Advani, who had responded to the post, started a free learning centre on the Bandstand promenade in Bandra, enrolling children from nearby settlements and recruiting homemakers and retired professionals as volunteer teachers.

Angel Xpress Foundation's free learning centre programme teaches English, mathematics and life skills alongside the government school curriculum, and the organisation reports having enlisted several hundred volunteers in Mumbai.[2][3][4][5]

Angel Xpress Foundation runs free learning centres across Mumbai where volunteer mentors — stay-at-home parents, retirees, professionals and students — teach first-generation learners from neighbouring slum communities.
