People for the Respect and Care of Animals (PRCA) operates Chhaya, an animal hospital and shelter established in 2008 on a 2.5-acre site in Aswathberia, Bhangar, on the outer fringes of Kolkata. It rescues injured, sick, and neglected street animals, runs an Animal Birth Control (ABC) program to humanely manage Kolkata's street-dog population, and operates a 24/7 rescue hotline, offering all services free of cost.
