Vinita Saraf is the founder & managing trustee of Ek Tara[1], an Indian non-profit working on education and women & children from Kolkata.
Ek Tara
Ek Tara works from Topsia in Kolkata to integrate minority slum-dwelling communities through holistic education, with a particular focus on the girl child. It runs its own Ek Tara Learning Centre and educational programmes inside government schools, working on communication skills, logical thinking, employment pathways and informed life choices, alongside a community centre and a creative arts wing.
Ek Tara reports the following, on its own site:
- Educated close to 2000 children since inception
- Chakke Pe Kaksha currently reaches 73,449 students
- 95% of students successfully transition from pre-primary to high school
