Srabani Sarkar Neogi is the founder secretary-cum-director of South Kolkata Hamari Muskan[1], an Indian non-profit working on anti-trafficking and women & children from Kolkata.
South Kolkata Hamari Muskan
South Kolkata Hamari Muskan has worked since 2009 in the Sonagachi and Bowbazar red-light areas with children, adolescents and women survivors of violence and trafficking. Founded by social development activist Srabani Sarkar Neogi, its centres run projects — Pamper, Nurture, Dignity and Breakthrough — that build the confidence and resilience needed to choose a dignified life.
South Kolkata Hamari Muskan reports the following, on its own site:
- SKHM started working with 16 children in November 2009 and by 2018, it has reached 255 children (approximately) in Bowbazar & Shonagachhi.
- SKHM has put 195 children into mainstream schools.
- SKHM has enabled 30 mothers, 30 fathers and 60 youths in Bowbazar area to access therapeutic counselling, vocational and skill-building training and has supported them to choose alternative livelihoods.
- SKHM has identified and referred 11 (exceedingly) vulnerable children to residential schools.
