Sonalee Shyamsunder
FounderFounder of Urmi Foundation
Sonalee Shyamsunder is the founder of Urmi Foundation (2012)[1], an Indian non-profit working on disability and education from Mumbai.
Urmi Foundation
Urmi Foundation supports children with disabilities in Mumbai's low-income communities, where its door-to-door surveys found most mothers unaware of their child's disability and a majority of intellectually disabled children shut out of education and therapy. The foundation responds with cost-effective, socially oriented models for disability awareness, identification, intervention and mainstreaming, working through the city's anganwadis.
Urmi Foundation reports the following, on its own site:
- 6900+ disabled children detected through community outreach.
- 2000+ special children receives Urmi's educational and therapeutic support each year.
- 1000+ Anganwadis trained to detect disabilities at an early stage and prevent them.
