Shri Vinayak Vishwanath alias Appa Pendse is the founder of Jnana Prabodhini[1], an Indian non-profit working on education, rural & agriculture and women & children from Pune.
Jnana Prabodhini
Jnana Prabodhini was founded in Pune in 1962 by educationist V.V. (Appa) Pendse to put Swami Vivekananda's thought into practice through leadership-building education. Today it runs schools, research institutes, rural development centres and women's empowerment programmes across Maharashtra, with centres in Pune, Nigdi, Solapur, Shivapur, Harali and Salumbre.
Jnana Prabodhini reports the following, on its own site:
- Across its school-improvement and science-education projects in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Assam and Karnataka in 2021-22, Jnana Prabodhini reached 614 schools, 29,617 students, with 702 teachers participating (Annual Report 2021-22).
- The work of making rural women self-reliant through savings groups and self-employment has now reached about 6,000 women (Annual Report 2021-22).
