Yakshit Yuva Foundation was founded in 2012 by Taekwondo master Shreepada R. Rao, who also runs Rao's Yuva Academy training institute in Kakati, a rural part of Belagavi district. The foundation uses sport, primarily Taekwondo, as a platform for character-building and self-defence training with an emphasis on gender equity, and runs a career-guidance initiative called Careerscape for school students.
