Founded in 1874, the BSPCA runs the Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals in Parel, Mumbai, treating stray and owned animals including dogs, cats, cattle and birds. It operates wards, an OPD run with the Bombay Veterinary College, ambulance services and animal birth control programmes, funded almost entirely by donations.
The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) reports the following, on its own site:
- Our OPD is run along with the Bombay Veterinary College, and we treat about 50 animals per day here.
- Our five wards for dogs have a combined capacity for 151 dogs in independent kennels.
