Rinchen Wangchuk is the co-founder of Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust (2003)[1], an Indian non-profit working on animals, environment and livelihood from Leh.
Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust
Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust, established in 2000 and independent since 2003 under founder-director Rinchen Wangchuk, works with herding communities across Ladakh and Spiti on conflict mitigation, camera-trap research, conservation education and the award-winning UNESCO-supported Himalayan Homestays programme.
Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust reports the following, on its own site:
- Since 2002, SLC-IT has trained over 130 families to offer homestays across Ladakh under its Himalayan Homestays initiative.
- Thus far, we have built or improved over 150 livestock corrals across Ladakh, benefitting more than 600 families.
- Currently, about 110 households in four villages are part of the community-owned livestock insurance program SLC-IT started in 2001.
- Over 200 school-dropouts and unemployed youth have been trained so far through the week-long nature guide training course.
