Voluntary Action for Rehabilitation and Development (VARHAD)
An Amravati-based non-profit registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950, working for over two decades in the criminal justice system of the Vidarbha region. It provides free socio-legal aid to prisoners, education for prisoners' children, and literacy and empowerment programmes for incarcerated women.
Voluntary Action for Rehabilitation and Development (VARHAD) reports the following, on its own site:
- Over 18,000 home visits conducted across the Vidarbha region, Maharashtra, and still counting.
- Over 12,000 individuals provided legal aid, including court visits, lawyer arrangements, parole/furlough assistance, and case follow-ups.
