Prema Gopalan is the founder of Swayam Shikshan Prayog (1998)^[1], an Indian non-profit working on women & children, rural & agriculture, livelihood and disaster relief from Mumbai.

Swayam Shikshan Prayog

Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) was established in 1998 by Prema Gopalan to build women's leadership in rural Maharashtra. It runs women-led climate-resilient farming, rural entrepreneurship and disaster resilience programmes. Its work has been recognised with the UNDP Equator Prize, the Social Entrepreneur of the Year India Award (2018) and NITI Aayog's Women Transforming India Award (2021).

Works across 8 states, 37 districts, 60 blocks and 3,729 villages, and has empowered 11,500+ women leaders (2024-25)
1,34,640 women farmers were trained under its Women-led Climate Resilient Farming programme in Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka in FY 2024-25
