Poonam Kathuria is the founder of SWATI (Society for Women's Action and Training Initiatives)[1], an Indian non-profit working on women & children, human rights and rural & agriculture from Ahmedabad.

SWATI (Society for Women's Action and Training Initiatives)

SWATI is a feminist organisation founded in 1994 by Poonam Kathuria, working from Ahmedabad with field offices in Surendranagar district. It runs women-led Mahila Nyay Panchayats that mediate cases of violence from a feminist perspective, Swa-Bhoomi Kendras for women's land rights, and pioneering pilots that train ASHAs and the rural health system to identify and support domestic violence survivors — work that has informed hospital-based crisis responses beyond Gujarat.

SWATI (Society for Women's Action and Training Initiatives) reports the following, on its own site:

  • Mahila Nyay Panchayats, functional since 2002, have handled over 2,500 cases of violence and exploitation
