Jaljeevika - Centre for Aquatic Livelihood

Jaljeevika, the Centre for Aquatic Livelihood, works from Pune to build livelihoods for small-scale inland fish farmers. It trains smallholders to use existing water bodies productively, strengthens their institutions, and connects them to markets through technology, alongside newer work on seaweed cultivation and a knowledge forum for the blue economy.

• Our Matsya Sakhis program has trained over 5,000 women, creating sustainable micro-enterprises and fostering economic independence.
• Our integrated approach has helped establish over 1,000 fish seed rearing micro-enterprises and 350+ low-cost fish cage installations, benefiting 35,000+ farmers.
• Our innovative approach has empowered over 50,000 beneficiaries across India, transforming traditional fishery practices.
• The lessons on pond management and income through fish farming encouraged more than 4000 women and SHGs to engage in fish farming and fish sale-related microenterprises.
