Ms. Mittal Patel is the founding member of Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM)[1], an Indian non-profit working on livelihood, human rights and water & sanitation from Ahmedabad.

Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM) began in 2005 and was formally registered in 2010 in Ahmedabad under the leadership of Mittal Patel, working for the social identity, dignity and rights of Gujarat's nomadic and de-notified tribes. Its programmes span identity documentation, education, housing, livelihood, water conservation through lake revival, and tree plantation.
Vicharta Samuday Samarthan Manch (VSSM) reports the following, on its own site:
- At present, VSSM has a strong presence in all 26 districts of Gujarat, and from Financial Year 2025-26 is expanding to two new districts in Rajasthan.
- VSSM's two residential hostels in Ahmedabad (the Unnati girls' hostel and the Shri Gambhirchand Oomedchand Shah boys' hostel) house 150 children enrolled in leading private schools, and its Smt. Viraben Meghjibhai Shah Hostel at the Vadi nomadic settlement at Kakar, Banaskantha accommodates 90 children.
