SAMPARC was founded by Amitkumar Banerjee, who has worked since 1984 with children who were orphaned, abandoned, born to women in sex work or to imprisoned parents. SAMPARC reports the following, on its own site:
- Grown from a home for 7 orphaned children in 1990 into a nationally recognized organization supporting over 650 children across India, with 14 project locations and 294 full-time and part-time staff
