Mr Sikandar Meeranaik is the founder of Sankalpa Rural Development Society (SRDS) (2008)[1], an Indian non-profit working on water & sanitation, rural & agriculture and environment from Hubballi.

SRDS specialises in rainwater harvesting that brings dried-up borewells back to life, recharging groundwater for farmers, schools and apartment complexes. Over eighteen years it has recharged more than 3,000 borewells across eleven states, alongside pond rejuvenation, farmer training and self-help group work from its Hubballi base.

Sankalpa Rural Development Society (SRDS) reports the following, on its own site:

  • To date, we have implemented more than 2800+ bore well recharge projects – 60 rooftop water harvesting projects, 200 water storage tanks, with more than 30 urban projects and many rural projects.
  • We are working – in eleven states – 2800+ bore wells recharged.
