Mira Kalbag is the founder of Vigyan Ashram (1983)[1], an Indian non-profit working on education, livelihood and rural & agriculture from Pabal.

Vigyan Ashram

Founded by scientist Dr S.S. Kalbag in 1983 in Pabal village near Pune, Vigyan Ashram pioneered Rural Development through Education System (RDES) — practical, technology-based learning for rural youth and school dropouts. It hosts India's first Fab Lab, set up with MIT, and its Introduction to Basic Technology programme runs in schools across several states.

Vigyan Ashram reports the following, on its own site:

  • In the last 3 years, 750+ participants took part in its skills training, 150+ entrepreneurs were created and 70+ technology projects were completed.
