K. Viswanathan is the founder of Mitraniketan (1956)^[1], an Indian non-profit working on education, rural & agriculture and tribal welfare from Vellanad.

Mitraniketan runs a residential school, a People's College, a Rural Technology Centre and a Farm Science Centre in Vellanad, Kerala. It serves rural youth, tribal communities and marginal farmers, and holds UN ECOSOC special consultative status.
