K.S.R. Murthy is the founder (member of the founding group) of ASSIST (1985)[1], an Indian non-profit working on rural & agriculture, water & sanitation, healthcare and women & children from Chilakaluripet.

ASSIST

ASSIST is a rural-development NGO founded in 1985 and based in Chilakaluripet, Palnadu district, Andhra Pradesh, working across poor and marginalised communities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Its model builds self-sustaining 'People's Organisations' run by communities themselves, covering awareness generation, child development, community health, women's empowerment, and water and sanitation — including installing and handing over 276 community-run water treatment plants over more than three decades.

ASSIST reports the following, on its own site:

  • 533 bicycles distributed to high school students walking 2-5 km daily to school in 2024-25
