Eknathji Ranade is the founder of Vivekananda Kendra[1], an Indian non-profit working on education, rural & agriculture, faith-based service and tribal welfare from Kanyakumari.
Vivekananda Kendra
Vivekananda Kendra was founded in 1972 at Kanyakumari by Eknath Ranade following the building of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial. It works as a spiritually oriented service mission through full-time life workers, running Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and other states, along with rural development, natural resources development, yoga and cultural programmes. It publishes state-wise activity reports and the periodical Kendra Samachar.
Vivekananda Kendra reports the following, on its own site:
- Vivekananda Kendra runs 80+ Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas providing education to approximately 32,000 tribal and rural children in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, the Andamans, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
- Vivekananda Kendra has over 1,332 branch centres spread across 26 states of India, staffed by full-time karyakartas (Jeevan-vratis).
- Through its rural development work the Kendra has installed 125 hand pumps for drinking water and deepened 2 wells across five districts.
