Dr S Paramasivan is the founder of Sanitation First India (2007)[1], an Indian non-profit working on water & sanitation and women & children from Chennai.

Sanitation First, registered as Wherever the Need India Services, works across eight states and two union territories on water, sanitation and women's dignity, reporting over 600,000 beneficiaries. It builds eco-friendly sanitation, including more than 300 school toilet blocks, delivers hygiene education and menstrual health training that has reached over 150,000 people, and turns human waste into thousands of tonnes of compost.

Sanitation First India reports the following, on its own site:

  • +50M litres of water saved from being flushed down
  • +300,000 people accessing safe and sustainable toilets
  • +150,000 people have received menstrual education & adolescent health training
  • +18000 tonnes of soil enriching compost generated from human waste
