Bombay Leprosy Project

Bombay Leprosy Project (BLP) is a Mumbai-based NGO founded in 1976 by leprologist Dr. R. Ganapati to research and treat leprosy entirely through public donations. It pioneered a shift in Indian leprosy care from closed, institutionalised treatment to community-based diagnosis and care, allowing patients to continue living with their families and helping to reduce social stigma. The organisation has been recognised as an outstanding scientific body by the Government of India, state governments and international bodies including the WHO for its leprosy research and disability-prevention work.
