Dr. Pratimaben Dilip Desai is the founder trustee of SEWA Rural[1], an Indian non-profit working on healthcare and tribal welfare from Jhagadia.
SEWA Rural
SEWA Rural (Society for Education, Welfare and Action–Rural) runs a 100-bed hospital in Jhagadia treating around 70,000 outpatients a year, alongside community health programmes across roughly 600 villages of tribal south Gujarat.
SEWA Rural reports the following, on its own site:
- 27 lakh patients, mostly from poor tribal families, have received high quality treatment for free or at a discount since 1980
- Eye operations have restored eyesight for 1,27,000 people
- 13,000 children provided with extra school coaching for holistic education
