Vivekananda Mission Asram Netra Niramay Niketan

The eye-care wing of Vivekananda Mission Asram at Chaitanyapur near Haldia, Netra Niramay Niketan has served the villages of East Midnapore and adjoining districts since 1994. Its base hospital, second unit at Chandi, vision centres and outreach camps bring cataract, retina, glaucoma, cornea and child eye care to a largely rural population with poor access to healthcare, backed by an eye bank, low-vision services and computer training for the visually impaired.

Vivekananda Mission Asram Netra Niramay Niketan reports the following, on its own site:

  • Around 2,30,000 patients treated every year in OPD, vision centres and outreach camps
  • More than 26,000 surgeries performed every year, about 60% free of cost
  • Provides eye care services to a surrounding population of approximately 15 million
