Achyuta Samanta is the founder of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) (1992)[1], an Indian non-profit working on tribal welfare, education and hunger from Bhubaneswar.

KISS, founded by Prof. Achyuta Samanta in Bhubaneswar, provides fully free education, accommodation, food and healthcare to over 30,000 indigenous (tribal) students from kindergarten to university. The KISS Foundation is the NGO behind the school, college and KISS Deemed University.

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) reports the following, on its own site:

  • 30,000 existing students at KISS Bhubaneswar plus 10,000 in satellite centres
  • 40,000 empowered alumni
  • Fully free residential home for 80,000 indigenous students; 65% of the student body is female
  • Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council since 2015
