Shikhar Dhawan is the founder of Shikhar Dhawan Foundation[1], an Indian non-profit working on sports and education from Delhi.
Shikhar Dhawan is a former Indian international cricketer who played as an opening batter. He was a regular member of India's limited-overs sides for more than a decade and played domestic cricket for Delhi. He was the leading run-scorer and player of the tournament at the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and the leading Indian run-scorer at the 2015 World Cup.
He established the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, a registered trust that supports non-governmental organisations rather than delivering all programmes directly. Its main initiative, Impact 11, adopts and incubates eleven NGOs for a period of twelve months, giving them support on organisational structure, technology, fundraising, branding and scale.
Philanthropy
Explaining his reasons for setting up the foundation, Dhawan said he had been "blessed by a lot of love and support from my fans, the cricket fraternity, and the country at large" and felt it was time to give back.
The foundation describes its purpose as building the capacity of NGOs and supporting local development institutions through collaboration. Its Impact 11 programme spans education, healthcare, skill development, livelihood creation, disability support, environment and sport. Activities have included digital classrooms in government schools and livelihood programmes for people with disabilities. The trust is registered under the Indian Trusts Act with 12A and 80G certification and FCRA registration.
Separately, during the 2021 Indian Premier League Dhawan donated prize money from his player-of-the-match awards, together with a personal contribution, to the Mission Oxygen campaign supplying oxygen concentrators during India's second wave of COVID-19.[2][3][4][5]
