Co-founder of SayTrees

Deokant Payasi is the co-founder of SayTrees (2007)[1], an Indian non-profit working on environment from Bengaluru.

Deokant Payasi is an Indian environmentalist and retired naval officer who is co-founder and chief executive of SayTrees Environmental Trust, a Bengaluru-based organisation working on urban forestry, agroforestry and the restoration of water bodies across India.

Career

Payasi served in the Indian Navy, retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander, and is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. SayTrees describes him as its co-founder and chief executive officer and as the person responsible for its strategy.

SayTrees began in 2007 as an informal weekend tree-planting group started in Bengaluru by Kapil Sharma, and was registered as a trust in 2013. It has since worked with several hundred corporate partners on plantation, lake restoration and agroforestry programmes across India.[2][3][4]

SayTrees mobilises volunteers and corporates to plant trees, create urban forests and restore lakes and water bodies. It focuses on large-scale afforestation and environmental restoration.
